Description

Spiritual people believe that only through renunciation can one earn the worthiness to live in the presence of God; only through renunciation can one attain eternal life; and only renunciation can bring them supreme happiness. With the longing to spend an eternal life in bliss in the presence of God, many people wish to become ascetics and proclaim themselves to be so. Yet it is often seen that they carry with them a strong desire for worldly pleasures, and that desire for indulgence is sometimes even greater than that of those who openly pursue enjoyment.

Many girls possess the confidence that they can become stars. Their confidence lifts their colourful minds up to the sky. But it is often seen that before those minds can find a place there, they fall back to the ground, struck by the sky’s demand that they surrender their modesty as a condition.

Many young men and women become almost mad in the name of life itself. They yearn and cry out for life. Seeing their longing, life does come to them—but only for a very brief moment. Those young people do not realize that if they wish to have life as a long-lasting companion, they must first strengthen their own feet before calling it.

In all three novellas of this book, the central character is a woman.
